"Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think,” Steve Jobs said in 1995. But for a beginner, learning to code can be intimidating. Enter CodeSpells. UC San Diego's Sarah Guthals has developed this video game to teach people how to code. The story line is simple: you’re a wizard that uses spells (i.e. code) to navigate through the world, fight off foes, and solve problems. While experienced coders can delve deep into the programming to create some truly devastating spells, newbies can easily experiment with the simple drag-and-drop coding interface. The research highlighted in this video has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation I-Corps grant. http://codespells.org — To get updates and information about CodeSpells http://learntomod.com — A similar software developed by us to teach coding through Minecraft http://thoughtstem.com — Getting CS education into your classroom/school FEATURING: Sarah Guthals, alum of the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego --- Why Science Needs Art: https://youtu.be/-junNCPl3Zs Subscribe! http://bit.ly/1fUWHyY Fig. 1 explores new ideas and research out of the University of California — ranging from science, technology, art and humanities. Internet.org is a free internet service by Facebook. In a press conference prior to the Digital World event, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak made quite an interesting announcement. He told the media that the government has been in talks with Facebook authority to launch Zuckerberg’s much lauded internet.org initiative in Bangladesh and there might be some headway into bringing the initiative to our country. The State Minister informed that the official announcement might come on the last day of the event (12th February) during a conference titled ‘Promoting Internet Access and Economic Growth in Bangladesh’ which will be headed by the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh. Ankhi Das, Head of Public Policy of India is expected to make the announcement.
